After leaving the lovely and cozy home of the Harris', I drove east to Cardiff. My parents had been earlier on their vacation a year ago and I heard rave reviews for the Cardiff Castle. It definitely lived up to the hype. It's a whole complex with the original castle on the mound, a huge mansion you can tour, underground WWI/II bunkers, and a museum complex where you start the tour. Highly recommended and great for kids too. As you can see I had another beautiful Welsh day to tour Cardiff.

Andy, who I had ran into in Manchester, is from Cardiff and told me a great story about the enchanted animal statues that are frozen in time around the Cardiff castle walls. This grandmother told him there used to be an animal garden at the castle and they were well taken care of by the master of the property. When he suddenly died, allegedly at the hands of the evil wizard, the animals all tried to flee for their safety. The evil wizard, however, put a curse on the property and the animals were frozen in time as they tried to escape over the castle walls.
After touring the castle and then walking around the city center, I stopped at the National Museum as my last stop in Wales.
And now....back to England - first stop Bath!
The interior of the mansion ( you can tour and walk through everything on site!) is so full of detail. It's truly stunning and you could spend hours learning all the details of just one wall. There is an animal theme through out which is super cool and enhances the enchanted fairy tale feel.
Continuing the animal theme there is an aviary on the property with all sorts of cool birds on display.
They all look wise and ferocious. Very Harry Potter.
