Blau Nacht 2009

Nurnberg had it's Blau Nacht festival the same long weekend as when we went to Bamberg. Basically it's a night to celebrate the arts, museums, music, etc. All the street lights are given a blue light bulb or turned off, so the whole city is super dark.
There were sooo many people it was like being at a rock concert.

Cool little robot.
This was one of the expositions. It's all beer crates making a giant star shape. Based upon the loud club music we thought there was a dance floor inside, but it was way to small for such a thing. Would have been cool though. As it was, just kinda wierd.
Frith found the only non-blue lights in town....hmmm
Noah's new motocycle.
Random band playing on the street.

Who knew Nurnberg had a Ballon Team? And that they travel?
Another expo.
The coolest event was that they did a show on the castle itself.....

The crowd coming up the hill from the haupmarkt to the castle.

Saw these posters all over Bamberg and forgot to add it to the last post, whoops! They were too cool to miss.

Bandit to Bamberg!

Over a long weekend in May, I decided to take advantage of the tourist locations near by. Therese, Bobo, Bandit and I drove about 45 minutes to Bamberg.

The old Rathausplatz....town hall, located on an island between the two sides of the river. Once over the island, we entered the Old City.

This is the newer side.

Bandit checks out the gondola. Bamberg is known as a little Venice due to all the waterways and building very close to the water...which you'll see later.

Here you can see all the homes along the river.
Then we climbed up the hill towards the big church and castle (which is really an old convent)
State House.
Rose garden in the back of the state house.
Views into downtown from the rose garden.
The castle.
Off the road garden was a great house and resturant/cafe.
Pefect for weddings.
Of course we tried some cakes.
Bandit had a bath the day before. Apparently he felt that he needed a facial as well.

Walking up to the castle.

Bandit feels right at home.

Bandit loves being a tourist!
Another outdoor cafe at the back of the castle.

We took the back way down. Of course Bandit had to lead the way.
In case he wasn't already dirty enough, Bandit tried jumping in here.
Apparently this is a Killer Slug. In America, we just call it a big n' ugly slug.
A collapsed house in the woods.

German Venice...
