Lady T's Sweden Christmas

My of my closets friends here, Therese, decided to move to Stockholm to work for H&M. She turned her traditional Swedish St.Lucia party into a 1/2 going away party as well. sniff...sniff...
She served traditional Swedish food and glogg. Some how or another I found myself sitting for a long time in front of the rice pudding....

Bobo showing us all how he'd look if he had to wear his pants at his waist as they did in the 1940's.

Christmas Market Comes to Nurnberg!

Nurnberg is known globally for it's Christmas Market. Basically from Nov 20th through Jan the entire city is decorated for Christmas. I mean everything. Each store window, every bakery, the street lamps, etc. The center Hauptmarkt has a bunch of stalls that sell gluwein (hot blueberry wine), decorations, food, little christmas-y presents, etc. i.e. tchochkies.

Here is opening night, Dec 1st.
Astrid, Therese and I.

The church on the Hauptmarkt and the main christmas tree. Here Kristkindle (basically the christ angel, who's a woman w/ blonde hair and a gold crown) gives a speech and lights the tree for the offical start of the Christmas Market.
You can see the choir at the viewing deck

Even the grannies get in on the act.

Yes, that's a large kettle on fire.

They give horse drawn carridge rides around the city.
Not only do they decorate, they also import evergreen trees all over the city.

Only in Germany could you get 12 saugages served in a heart tin plate. Bobo's dinner choice.

Yes, that's a chirstmas card w/ a donkey pooping gold. What?!?

Suzie-Talks-A-Lot's head used to make an angel....wierd.

At this stand it's all miniature things. Why anyone needs a miniature phone book or sausage on a string is beyond me. Not exactly typical doll house furniture pieces.
If there's anything miniature anyone would like to bring them back please advise.

The miniature store is having a special sale. With every mini tv you also get a nativity scene.

The city is packed. I'm in favor of building underground tunnels for the locals to use to do their errands. Otherwise, I could imagine a few elbows flying since people on a lesiure holiday like to walk very slowly and do not like to get out of your way. Espeically when you're carrying about 50 kilos of groceries. Happy Christmas!

No idea what they're selling here...

Checking out all the nativity scenes built by local businesses.

This one not only looked more like a Swiss schallet, but also had a schnauser and saint bernard dog in the nativity. Neither of which I remember being in original Chirstmas story.
Here is Mr. Bernard with the St.Bernard.

This is inside the Playmobil house. Unfortunately, it looks like Santa is trying to kidnap this child. "get in the waggon suzie" He must be the South Pole Santa.

They also use "chucky" type dolls to notify everyone where the Kinderweihnacht (kids chirstmas market) is located. They're anomatronic. The boy in the front is doing the moon walk. Please note the ridiculous orange wig at the back.

While Santa plays his dog sings along.

And there's a real manger scene. Oddly sans bebe Jesus.

Bandit and the Camel getting their chat on. Among the other amazing things Bandit has done, he can now proudly say he's been nose to nose w/ a Camel. He's sooo wordly.

We all look a bit funny here cause originally the camel's head was between Noah and I. At the last minute it decided to rub it's jaw across my head and look at the camera.

Thanksgiving in the 'Berg

I threw a Thanksgiving dinner for my german "family" the Sunday after the official day. It was fun to have everyone over for a big Sunday dinner. It was potluck, so everyone brought something, and an international assortment with 4 Americans, 4 English, 2 Sweedish and 1 Italian.

Tom made his "award winning" mashed potatoes. Super tasty, but can also be used to patch holes in walls. Iain demonstrates.

Kris, Therese and I cleaning up after dinner.

Before dessert we decorated my tree.

and w/ Bandit.

Apparently if you screw a wine opener into a chocolate santa's head, it will explode.

Now for the official Thanksgiving 'mug' shots.
